I just opened my Lenovo Ideapad 1 14 Igl7 to upgrade the hdd but I purchased the wrong type and I noticed that there is no ssd at all in the slot at all but it boots up normally and file explorer reports 71 gb left of 114 available. Can any tell me what is going on, does it have a hdd soldered to the mb like the 4gb ram that cant be upgraded.

You will probably have 4gb of ram, an intel N series CPU and an eMMC SSD, all of which are hard-wired [soldered to the board]
it should also have a sodim slot to take no more than 8gb of extra ram and an M2M slot for extra storage make sure you get the right one see chart below picture of M2 drives your

Thought I had lost the above post, So I will leave this one as it has an additional link........ the short answer is all main components are soldered to the board, there are 2 expansion slots , one SODIM slot to take up to 8gb of extra ram, and one M2M slot to take a M2M NVMe storage drive, you will need a 42 mm 3x4 M2 NVMe like this one... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-PM...2mm&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1736673436&sr=8-3

and instructions

I would very much like to do so but there is no slot for sodimm. It looks like there is a place where you could put one, but it would require modifying. Do you know of a kit or anything?

I have never had one in bits, so I am working from the workshop Manuel ok to insert Sodim
1]make sure you have it the right way up
2] gently slide in the card at a slight angle[
3]when fully home push down evenly at each edge until the clips engage
and now a screenshot showing the locations of both M2 and SODIM slots

all my post on this topic assume you have a pad made for UK/Europe/USA, pads made for Asia can be different in parts used

I am looking on Lenovo's website myself. I am not optimistic about the ram but what I really needed was the ssd anyway.

Ideapad 114IGL7 Type 82V6 SN PF42HNB1
says made in China

Now I have a different problem. I installed a new 128gb ssd and partitioned it and it shows up iin file explorer, but I have a 142gb video library and when I try to copy it to videos I get an error message that says there is not enough disk space, even though with both drives showing in file explorer I have about 180 gb free space on both drives. Will it not use both drives?

Not surprised, you're trying to install 12.6 % more files than there is room for.
The 180 GB is the total free space on both drives

well, right you can say trying to install 12.6% more than the available 180 GB of total free space across both drives will definitely cause issues. You’ll need to free up space or install on a different drive with enough capacity. Consider cleaning temp files, uninstalling unused programs, or moving data to an external drive.
