With the iPad fresh in the hearts and minds of consumers, Apple plans to introduce the next evolution of its iPhone OS. The company today handed out invitations to media outfits for the unveiling of iPhone OS 4.0. The event will be held on the Apple campus at 10AM, this Thursday. Beyond that, details are extremely limited. The invitation simply showed the image below saying, " Get a sneak peek into the future of iPhone OS."

It was previously speculated that Apple would launch the next major revision of iPhone OS along with an iPhone HD on June 22. That's still likely considering the words "sneak peek" – this week's gathering is presumably nothing more than a demonstration. Apple's iPhone OS 4.0 is expected to bring multitasking, and possibly even a file system that lets users save and open documents from outside of a particular application.
