Asus has expanded its notebook lineup today with a new model that aims to offer the perfect balance between a desktop replacement and an ultraportable computer. Bearing the forgettable U30Jc moniker, this 13.3-inch notebook combines up to 9 hours of battery life with the power of an Arrandale-based processor and discrete graphics from Nvidia.

Specifically, the Asus U30Jc packs in a 2.26GHz Intel Core i3-350M chip and Nvidia GeForce GT310M graphics, which will be used in the most efficient way possible alongside the integrated Intel GMA graphics thanks to Nvidia's auto-switching technology. This helps it achieve pretty decent gaming performance and deliver smooth high definition multimedia playback, while optimizing battery life when doing regular, less graphics intensive desktop work.

The U30Jc also manages to fit in an optical drive, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 320GB hard disk spinning at 5,400RPM, HDMI-out, Wi-Fi, multi-touch trackpad and the usual webcam and microphone. The notebook has an aluminum enclosure and uses the widely-spaced island style keyboard that many manufacturers are opting for today. It's reasonably priced for just under $900 and immediately available on Newegg and other online sellers.
