According to the folks at Bright Side of News (BSN), Microsoft has "definitely" postponed the release of its anticipated Windows Mobile 7 to 2011. The site claims to have received confirmation from many sources, including representatives from Microsoft, Lenovo, Qualcomm, TI, Nokia, Nvidia, HTC and more.

The consensus is that Windows Mobile 7 will not appear before February 2011's World Mobile Congress in Barcelona. If true, Microsoft could sacrifice further influence in the mobile market as companies switch focus to Android and even Chrome OS for their smartphones and smartbooks during this year.

This wouldn't be the first delay in the operating system's history, so the rumor is at least plausible. Windows Mobile 7 was originally slated for debut in 2009, but various setbacks forced Microsoft to release version 6.5 instead. Ballmer acknowledged the company's poor execution last September.

Again, this is nothing more than a rumor, so until official word comes from Redmond, treat this news with a degree of skepticism. True or otherwise, let's hear your thoughts.
